Dev Update 5/9/10
I have finally been able to implement the new SevenUpdate.Service and update the SUI format to remove duplicate information. So now I have it finally working, I can finalize the changes and continue working on the new SDK. Wondering what this means? Better performance and optimized formats.
The upgraded WCF service removes the need for temporary files and with protobuf.net doing the serialization, faster performance. The SUA/SUI formats are now tied to each other. I have stripped the App Info section from the SUI, and now it reads it from the SUA database on your machine. That allows smaller file sizes and the removal of duplicate information. It also makes it faster managing your software updates and less screens for the SDK when your editing your SUI file.
So far work on the SDK is still in alpha stages, I am finalizing the layout and UI. One thing I know for sure is that Seven Update and the SDK will use Window 7 Jump Lists and display progress in the task bar when necessary. I am going to organize SUI/SUA into projects, So now it’s create, edit, test, and distribute project. Instead of constantly picking your SUI file to edit, the SDK will remember your projects and have a list for you to open. It will also store project files in your user settings directory. I am also getting rid of the clutter and improving usability.
So far there is no set date on the release of the new Seven Update and SDK, I am not going to rush it. When I can, I’ll share more details and if I have enough done, will share screenshots of the new SDK.
